National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The month of October marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month! With that in mind, there are several Disability Employment related events happening at the State House that I wanted to share: Disability Mentoring Day October 16, 2019 10am-2pm Massachusetts State House, 2nd Floor Unified celebration of Disability Mentoring and Employment opportunities for individuals with varied abilities and strengths. The day will include many opportunities for support leading to employment and vocational resources of the various partnerships throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities has designated a subcommittee to further study the critical issue of workforce development for persons with disabilities. The hearing is designed to encourage individuals with disabilities to share their own personal stories and experiences in the workforce. This event will coincide with National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which raises awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. Sponsors: Riverside Community Care, Institute for Community Inclusion Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council’s Legislative Breakfast October 30, 2019 10:30 AM-11:30 AM Massachusetts State House, Room 428 Join the Council in celebrating October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month! The breakfast will include an opportunity to network, words from Senator Patrick O’Connor and Representative Josh Cutler, and a panel of experts to discuss the successes and challenges of the state of disability employment in Massachusetts.
