The Massachusetts Medical Society is the professional association of physicians in the Commonwealth. Rep. State Representative Kay Khan will continue to help Newton residents reduce noise pollution from the Turnpike even though Governor Mitt Romney vetoed legislation to help in the effort. Rep. Khan has successfully worked with the Turnpike Authority to restart the sound barrier program and install several walls along the Pike to protect Newton homeowners. However, Rep. Khan believes that more work needs to be done to protect Newton residents from noise pollution from the Turnpike.

State Rep. Kay Khan won passage of three amendments to a transportation bill that benefit residents of Newton. Two of the amendments concern Rep. Khans longstanding efforts to minimize the impact of noise from the Mass Turnpike on Newton neighborhoods. The House also adopted Rep. Khans proposal to require a state study, with public input, on the impact of development at the Woodland and Riverside T stations on quality-of-life issues such as traffic on surrounding areas.
