Steve Grossman, a Democrat, will be sworn in as the 59th treasurer of Massachusetts, succeeding Treasurer Tim Cahill, who vacated the office to launch an unsuccessful bid for governor. Grossman, a former national and state Democratic Party chairman, beat out Republican Rep. Karyn Polito in November by about 216,000 votes, a 55-45 margin. Grossman, who runs a Somerville company – Grossman Marketing Group – will take the oath administered by Gov. Deval Patrick, with legislative leaders expected to be in attendance. After the swearing-in, a ceremony will take place in the Great Hall. |
