State Representative Kay Khan, in conjunction with Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE) and Marie Stopes International – US are holding a panel discussion on- Women’s Global Health and Rights: The Importance of Sexual and Reproductive Health
Introductory remarks by Senate President Therese Murray Panelists: Dianne Luby, President/CEO, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts State Representative Kay Khan, Massachusetts, 11th Middlesex District Michael Holscher, Senior Vice President & Strategy/External Affairs Director, Marie Stopes International Shahira Ahmed, Doctoral Candidate, Harvard School of Public Health Serra Sippel, President, Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE) The U.S. is a major funder of health and development in countries where unmet health needs are fueled by poverty, lack of infrastructure, health workforce deficiency, and gender inequality. High rates of maternal mortality and illness are due to unsafe abortion, lack of access to family planning services, and harmful traditional practices. These global challenges demonstrate the need for an integrated, woman-centered, human rights-based approach to health. This event will provide an overview of how access to a comprehensive, rights-based package of sexual and reproductive health services can impact the lives of women and girls globally. The panelists will discuss how this impact is connected to achieving larger U.S. global health and development goals and the importance of ensuring strong U.S. policy and adequate funding for maternal health, HIV, and family planning. This event is co-sponsored by ACLU of Massachusetts, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women (Mass. NOW), and Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts | ||
